Hello, beautiful souls,
Last week, something rather wonderful happened.
I had nowhere to be.
No appointments. No rushing out the door. No checking the clock because someone needed to be somewhere. The kids didn't have appointments either, which, if you're a mom, you know is practically a holiday in itself. π
It was just... space.
And I realized how replenishing that can be.
We often think of replenishment as something we have to doβtake a bath, make something lovely, go somewhere beautiful, practice our skincare routine.
And those things are wonderful.
But sometimes replenishment is what happens when we stop filling every available space.
When there is nowhere to go, nothing urgent waiting, and permission to simply let the day unfold.
That is what I'm carrying with me into this week.
A gentle practice for today
Leave one little space empty.
Choose one place in your week where you normally fill the time. Don't add anything to it. Don't make a plan for it. Just leave it open. Maybe it's an hour on Saturday afternoon. Maybe it's ten minutes before bed. Maybe it's your morning coffee before you check your phone When that little pocket of space arrives, resist the urge to fill it. Sit. Look out the window. Make tea. Listen to the birds. Pray. Or do absolutely nothing. Let the emptiness itself be the gift.
And if you find yourself thinking, I really should be doing something right now, take a breath and remember:
You don't have to fill every space to make your life meaningful.
πΌ What I'm Doing This Week
Last week, I had the luxury of an unusually empty calendar, and I want to carry a little of that feeling into this week.
I'm going to pay attention to the spaces between things. The few quiet minutes after I finish my coffee. The time in the garden. The moments when I could pick up my phone but don't. The little pauses that usually disappear because I'm already thinking about what's next.
Maybe that's where some of our replenishment is hiding. Not in adding one more thing to our self-care list...but in noticing the space we've already been given.
